A couple weeks ago Ricky and I drove to see a friend about 4 hours from our administrative offices in SE Wyoming. Wow, there were people everywhere on the highway, in the gas stations and rest stops! It appears that lockdown for a pandemic can indeed really give people cabin fever, and when the doors are unlocked, boom!
But now it's time to go back to school. Vacations come to an end, and kids and college students head back to the classroom- or maybe the classroom remains their living room or the home office, but school is just around the corner- and even already started for many. What a stressful beginning this year! But there are resources available always to those who have kids with celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, or food allergies.
This morning I received an email from Laura at Celiac Disease Foundation, who recently chatted on live stream with me about 504 plans. The latest CDF newsletter contains plenty of links to resources, which I'll share here. (By the way, Celiac Disease Foundation just announced that Charity Navigator has ranked them 100 out of a possible 100 points. Now that is reputable!)
If you missed our chat, here is some information on 504 Plans. Another resource is the guide to Managing Celiac Disease in Learning Environments. And don't forget to check out Eat! Gluten-Free, where you can find our desserts and other kid-friendly snacks.
Another good resource for back to school is Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE). Their Back to School Headquarters is a wealth of information and tools for navigating the school environment for celiac and gluten sensitive kids and those with food allergies, including addressing concerns surrounding Covid-19.
This week I'll be on vacation, star gazing at the Perseid Meteor Showers, but I hope you'll join me as we continue to explore a variety of topics with guests on our Facebook live stream, including kids with celiac disease and food allergies, as well as some fun stuff like BBQ. On Wednesday, August 19, we'll be back with Tim of KTM Industries for Sustainability Day. Bring your Qs and stick around for a live demo of green cell foam packaging!
We've got some cool news coming up after vacation, too, so I'll check in with you week after next. Until then, be well!
